Nongkrem Dance Festival held in Meghalaya

Meghalaya, Dec 17 (ANI): India's northeast region is known for its rich folklore, festivals and culture that attract many tourists from across the country as well as from around the globe. In Meghalaya's beautiful Khasi Hills, many magnificent fiestas are celebrated with tremendous pomp and grandeur. One of among them is the Nongkrem Dance festival.

The annual event was held amidst much fanfare at the scenic hamlet of Smit, the cultural centre for Khasi hills in Meghalaya, enchanting the tourists with its divine appearance. During the festival, which is celebrated as a Thanksgiving Day, rituals are performed to appease the all- powerful Goddess, 'Ka Blei Synshar' for a rich bumper harvest and prosperity of the people.
