North Karnataka farmers call for bandh over Mahadayi river water issue

Karnataka, Dec 27 (ANI): Farmers of North Karnataka called for bandh continuing their agitation on the Mahadayi River water issue. The decision came after their meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B.S.

Yeddyurappa failed to achieve a breakthrough. Hundreds of protesters, mainly farmers from districts in north Karnataka, came out on streets to protest against the decision to build canals over Mahadayi River to link its tributaries.

They held banners and raised slogans against the state government. Terming the bandh as a "warning bell" to the state and central governments, the farmers demanded a solution at the earliest.
