OROP Row: Protesting veterans call off fast unto death, Politicos react

New Delhi, Sep 06 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Sunday after the ex-servicemen, who have been on strike for more than 80 days, called off their fast-unto-death after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured them of pension benefits to all soldiers who took voluntary retirement. The protesting soldiers, however, would continue with their strike till the government accepted all their demands.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh blamed the opposition Congress party for delaying the pension scheme. Meanwhile, Former Defence Minister and Congress leader AK Antony said the government had failed to implement OROP in toto.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced the implementation of the long-awaited One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme. But the offer was rejected by the ex-servicemen who said that only one of their six demands was met by the government.
