Vijayawada (AP), May 29 (ANI): The Polavaram Irrigation Project is considered to be the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. However at present, the rehabilitation poses as a major hurdle as state government lacks fund.

Out of 98,000 families from 271 villages so far 3000 families have been rehabilitated as per the probation of Rehabilitation Act, 2013. Recently, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu in one of his speeches said that although centre is not granting funds, the state government will complete the project by 2019.

Talking about the project, Ramesh Babu, Superintendent Engineer of Polavaram Irrigation Project said, "Polavaram Project thelifeline of Andhra Pradesh. It is a multi-purpose irrigation project which has been accorded national project status by the union government was under contemplation since 1941 and work commenced during 2015.

The project aims to benefits farmers directly and indirectly and also reduces the shortage of drinking water."
