Queen Maxima meets 'Dabbawalas' of Mumbai

Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 31 (ANI): Queen Maxima of the Netherlands met the famous tiffin carriers of Mumbai, better known as 'Dabbawalas'. On the occasion, the Dabbawalas presented a memento to the queen in the form of framed miniature traditional lunchboxes.

A member of the community, Sopan Mare, who also attended Britain's Prince Charles second marriage, said that they feel elevated when members of royal families come and meet them. 'Dabbawalas' have for decades collected hot lunches from customers, often living in distant places, and using a complex delivery system and over-laden bicycles, carried them to offices and schools across the city with exceptional accuracy of time and destination.Queen Maxima is on a four day visit to the country in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General's special advocate for inclusive finance for development.
