Rajya Sabha adjourned till Thursday after uproar over Triple Talaq Bill

New Delhi, Jan 3 (ANI): After a huge uproar in the Parliament, where opposition insisted on taking the bill to the Select Committee, Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 11 am on Thursday. During the discussion in the Parliament, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that even after passing the bill in Lok Sabha, Triple Talaq practice continued in the country.

Citing the reason of not referring the bill to Select Committee, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that when the practice was declared unconstitutional, two of the judges held it as unfair and used their extraordinary power to suspend it for six months, which will expire on Feb 22. So, there is an urgency that country expects from Parliament and Legislature must act with sense of responsibility, he added.

Congress leader Anand Sharma moved the notice stating that Triple Talaq Bill should be referred to a Select Committee of Rajya Sabah and also proposes names of committee members.
