Sabarimala row: Devotees continue their sit-in protest, block entry of women

Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Oct 19 (ANI): Devotees of Lord Ayyappa continue their sit-in protest near the shrine of Sabarimala Temple, blocking the entry of women. Two women started a 5 km uphill trek towards the Sabarimala shrine in Kerala, escorted by hundreds of policemen.

The Sabarimala temple head priest has appealed to women belonging to the age group of 10-50 who were restricted as per the centuries-old traditions of the shrine, not to come to Sannidhanam. Inspector General S Sreejith tried to negotiate with devotees.

"Police will not create any issue in Sabarimala and we don't want a confrontation with you devotees. We are only following the law.

I will be discussing with the higher authorities and brief them on the situation," said IG Sreejith.
