State govt to monitor mining activities via GPS: Mines Minister Ranga Rao

Amravati (Andhra Pradesh), May 31 (ANI): The government of Andhra Pradesh is about to bring GPS tracking system by the end of July this year to prevent illegal transport of sand in the state. After Andhra Pradesh implemented free sand policy, reports of sand mafia have been on the rife.

In this wake, the mines minister held a press conference at state secretariat at Amaravati. "There are 150 notified sand reaches in the state and 54 check posts are established to prevent illegal transport of sand to neighboring states.

Till date 154 complaints are received on sand illegal transport and action being taken," said Ravu Sujaya Venkatakrishna Ranga Rao. While countering the allegations on prices of sand loading and transport, he explained, "Prices are being fixed by committees led by district collectors.
