Threat of diseases looms large over flash flood-hit Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh, July 05 (ANI): Threat of diseases looms large over parts of Uttarakhand after week-long rains and flash floods. At least 30 people died and many others went missing following a downpour that triggered flash floods and landslides in Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts of the state last week.

Thousands of officials were engaged round-the-clock to rescue survivors, look out for bodies and provide medical facilities in the affected areas. Personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and other agencies were deployed by the government to provide relief to the people.

Medical teams said a number of bodies were yet to be recovered, which threatened the outbreak of diseases. In Chamoli district, commuters had a harrowing time as a large part of the main road was damaged in the disaster, cutting off the area from rest of the district.
