Transgenders take out awareness rally on female foeticide

Hamirpur (U.P.), Dec 29 (ANI): Hundreds of members from the transgender community took to the streets of Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur on Friday to spread awareness about the menace of female foeticide. Members of the community from across the nation took part in the three-day event, 'Akhil Bhartiya Kinnar Sammelan', a programme aimed at educating people on saving girl child and violence against women.

Led by 'Mangla Mukhi', a transgender group, the members took out a musical procession on the last day of the event across the district and offered prayers at a local temple. Dwindling numbers of Indian girls, caused by the illegal abortion of millions of babies, has reached "emergency proportions", fuelling an increase in crimes such as kidnapping and trafficking, the United Nations has said.
