Uttarakhand observes 'Himalaya day' to preserve ecology

Dehradun, Sep 09 (ANI): Uttarakhand celebrated 'Himalaya day' with much ardour on Wednesday in a bid to conserve the mountains and ecology of the region. The event was organized at Gandhi Park in state capital Dehradun.

It was attended by Chief Minister Harish Rawat along with noted environmentalist and pioneer of Chipko movement, Sunderlal Bahuguna, and school children. Call for a consolidated initiative in the form of 'Himalaya day' was started in 2010 by a group of noted environmentalists and activists including Bahuguna.

Rawat said he was determined to make this initiative into an international movement to raise consciousness among people to conserve the ecology. The state chief later flagged off a rally of students.
