Women activists condemn killing of Pakistani model

Mumbai/Chennai, July 17 (ANI): Women activists condemned the death of Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch, who was allegedly murdered by her brother in a case of honour killing. Reportedly, Baloch's smutty social media photos challenged social norms in Pakistan.

Police officials on Saturday said the 26-year-old model was strangled by her brother, Waseem, who disappeared after the incident from their home on the outskirts of Multan city in Pakistan's Punjab province. Baloch received multiple death threats and suffered frequent misogynist abuse, but continued posting provocative pictures and videos.

In Facebook posts, she spoke of trying to change "the typical orthodox mindset" of people in Pakistan. More than 500 people are killed in Pakistan each year in so-called "honour killings", usually carried out by members of the victim's family meting out punishment for bringing "shame" on the community.
