9 penguins rescued, rehabilitated back to sea

San Clemente del Tuyu (Argentina), Aug 10 (ANI): Nine Magellanic penguins were recovered from malnutrition at the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre of the Mundo Marino Foundation in Argentina, following which they were returned to sea. The Magellanic penguin, breeding in coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands can occasionally be seen as far North as Rio De Janeiro.

When a single penguin reaches Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, it is given time to recover. Since this species of penguin lives in groups, an individual penguin at the centre takes time to adapt to a new group that can be returned to the sea together.

At least 2,600 penguins were rescued by the Mundo Marino Foundation's centre which returned and rehabilitated around 80 percent of them to seas.
