India to renovate schools ravaged by civil war in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Feb 06 (ANI): New Delhi and Colombo signed two pacts to deepen bilateral ties during the ninth Sri Lanka-India Joint Commission. India has agreed to renovate 27 schools ravaged by civil war in Sri Lanka along with the construction of a surgical unit in a local hospital.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Sri Lankan counterpart Mangala Samaraweera signed the accord in the presence of officials from both the countries. India took up the issue of its fishermen's arrest by Sri Lankan navy and the rights of minority Tamils with Sri Lankan leadership.

Swaraj is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Chandrika Kumaratunga during her two-day stay in the country. She will inaugurate 'Rise of Digital India' exhibition on Saturday as part of 'Sangam - Festival of India in Sri Lanka 2015-16' that will showcase India's growth in technology.
