Victim of police brutality, Madhesi family demands compensation from Nepal government

Nepal, Feb 19 (ANI): The family of Sohan Shah who was killed by Nepal police on September 1, 2015 accuses the government of not providing any compensation. Sohan Shah Kalwar who was fighting for Madeshi rights was shot by police when he was sitting at his home.

Six months later, the victim's family claims they are in miserable state and the government has not come up with any terms to compensate the loss. Anita Devi says she has not been able to send her children to school ever since her husband passed away.

She said that managing day-to-day life had become a herculean task. In the southern Terai region of Nepal, the Madeshis have been protesting for equal representation in the newly formed constitution that was promulgated in September last year.

The Madeshis charter includes redrawing of the boundaries of the provinces in Terai region, fixing of electoral constituencies on the basis of population and proportional representation. Around 55 people have been killed while protesting for
