Wild Monk parakeets nest in peace at New York cemetery

New York (USA), Mar 27 (ANI): A colony of wild Monk parakeets thrives at a cemetery in New York. These birds of a feather flock to find food under odd weather conditions in their chosen home.

It's late March, and the blanket of snow is as unusual for New York as their story, which starts in a foreign country. This is Green-Wood cemetery in Brooklyn, almost 500-acres of private burial ground where a colony of Monk parakeets rule the land.

For decades the birds have greeted and comforted mourners who came through the cemetery's main gate, the location of their communal nest. While hundreds of wild parrots call New York home, this colony is believed to be among the most successful, counting about 75 birds.
