Canada has for the first time named India in a list of cyberthreat adversaries, suggesting that state-sponsored actors could be spying against it.
Amid an ongoing diplomatic row, India is named fifth after China, Russia, Iran and North Korea in the National Cyber Threat Assessment 2025-2026 (NCTA 2025-2026) report.
We assess that Indian state-sponsored cyber threat actors likely conduct cyber threat activity against Government of Canada networks for the purpose of espionage, the report said.
The development comes as the bilateral relationship has gone south since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a year ago that Canada had credible evidence that agents of the Indian government were involved in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023, a charge dismissed as absurd by India.

At least 16 soldiers, including an Army officer, were injured after unidentified gunmen ambushed security forces' convoys in two separate incidents in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, officials said.
Eleven security personnel were injured when gunmen attacked their convoy in the Sarvekai area of South Waziristan district, officials said, adding that the injured included an officer of captain rank.
In another attack near Darra Tung check post in the volatile Lakki Marwat district, gunmen targeted a security forces convoy travelling from Karak district to an atomic energy project in Kabul Khel.
Five soldiers were injured in the attack, officials said.
Security forces, including police, Frontier Corps (FC), and the Pakistan Army, have increasingly come under terror attack in recent weeks across Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday accused the BJP and Samajwadi Party (SP) of being "hand in glove" in the run-up to the November 13 bypolls to nine Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh in which the BSP is going solo on all seats.

The Mangaluru police have uncovered a multi-state, multi-crore scam with the arrest of two men accused of defrauding an e-commerce giant across India, officials said on Saturday.
The suspects, Raj Kumar Meena (23) and Subhash Gurjar (27) from Rajasthan, are alleged to be part of a large-scale fraud spanning over 10 states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal described the arrests as a significant breakthrough.
A case has been registered at Urwa police station in Mangaluru.
The scam, reportedly, involved orders worth Rs 11.45 lakh placed under a false identity. The accused used the name Amith, to place orders, for two high-value cameras and other items, providing a fictitious address near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru.
