The US on Saturday rejected the BJP's allegations that organisations funded by the US State Department and elements in the American "deep state" were behind attempts to destabilise India through targeted attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business tycoon Gautam Adani.
A spokesperson at the US embassy described the allegations as "disappointing" and asserted that the US government has been a champion of media freedom around the world.
The BJP alleged on Saturday that the US deep state colluded with the media portal OCCRP (Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to "damage" India's image.
The BJP had cited Gandhi's use of reports by OCCRP to attack the Adani Group and to accuse it of having closeness with the government.

Leading cement maker UltraTech Cement has received a notice from the fair trade regulator CCI over its proposed acquisition of the South-based India Cements Ltd.
UltraTech Cement, in a regulatory filing, said it has received notice from the Competition Commission of India (CCI), and the Aditya Birla group flagship firm is confident in the merits of its case.
"The Company has received a communication from the Competition Commission of India under Section 29 (1) of the Competition Act, 2002, regarding the proposed acquisition of The India Cements Ltd. The Company will be responding to the same," said UltraTech.
The southern market for grey cement, where India Cements primarily operates, is highly competitive and fragmented, with the presence of over 35 grey cement manufacturers.

The government will offer 27 coal blocks across various states as it launches the fresh round of commercial mine auction on Thursday.
Union Minister of coal and mines G Kishan Reddy will launch the 11th round of commercial coal mine auctions on December 5, an official statement said.
The forthcoming auction offers 27 coal blocks distributed across various states and regions, designed to promote regional economic growth, and create employment opportunities.
"In this round, 20 coal mines will be offered for bidding, comprising 10 fully explored and 10 partially explored blocks.
"Additionally, seven coal mines from the second attempt of round 10 will also be on offer, including four fully explored and three partially explored blocks," the coal ministry said.
All these are non-coking coal blocks which are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately Rs 1,446 crore at peak-rated capacity and create around 19,063 employment opportunities.

Aviation watchdog DGCA will soon come out with streamlined regulations for wet-leasing of planes by Indian airlines that will also entail enhanced oversight of the aircraft, amid airlines looking to operate more planes to meet rising travel demand.
With persisting supply chain woes, there is a delay in aircraft deliveries and to meet the near-term needs, carriers are opting for planes on dry and wet leases.
A senior official in the know told PTI that the efforts are on to streamline the regulations for wet-leasing of planes to assist in the growth of the aviation.
"Realities of the engine problems cannot be wished away suddenly and on the other side, the possible routes are also increasing all the time," the official said.

A special MCOCA court in Mumbai on Saturday remanded eight accused in the Baba Siddique murder case in judicial custody till December 16.
The NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister was shot dead on October 12 in Nirmal Nagar in Bandra.  Mumbai police has arrested 26 persons in the case so far, and the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was invoked against all of them on November 30.  Eight accused, including alleged main shooter Shivkumar Gautam, were produced before the special judge for cases under MCOCA, A M Patil on Saturday at the end of their police remand.  The court remanded them in judicial custody as sought by the probe agency. The remaining accused are already in judicial remand.  Among those wanted in the case are gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi.

The Manipur government extended the ban on mobile data services in nine restive districts till December 9, according to an order issued by the Home Department on Saturday.
The decision was taken after reviewing the prevailing law and order situation in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl and Jiribam districts and its co-relation with internet services, the order said.
Mobile internet and mobile data services, including VSATs and VPN, will remain suspended till 5.15 pm on December 9 in public interest, it added.
However, exemption was granted to "cases allowed by the state government", it said.
Internet services were suspended in these districts on November 16 after violence broke out in the state following the recovery of the bodies of three women and three children in the Jiri and Barak rivers.
The government lifted the suspension on broadband services on November 19, considering the problems faced by healthcare facilities, .
