Passenger vehicle wholesales in India rose to record levels in September as automakers dispatched stocks to dealers in order to cater to the robust demand in the ongoing festive season.
The industry dispatches stood at 3,63,733 units last month, the best ever in a month.
The previous best was reported in August 2023 with dispatches of 3,60,700 units.
"This is the highest ever September of course, in any year in the Indian passenger vehicle history. It is also the highest ever in any month so far," Maruti Suzuki India Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava told reporters in a virtual press meet.
He noted that dispatches rose in September as the dealers prepared for the festive season which kicks in a big way from October 14.

At least eight people died and 49 others, including 23 army personnel, went missing on Wednesday after a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim triggered a flash flood in the Teesta River basin, officials said.
Three of the dead were washed up in north Bengal, they said.
The flood in Sikkim that started around 1.30 am was made worse by the release of water from Chungthang dam, the officials said.
Five bodies have been recovered from Golitar and Singtam region, Gangtok Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mahendra Chettri said.
Another official said besides the 23 army personnel, 26 civilians were also missing, while 45 people rescued, including 18 injured.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday urged company secretaries to rededicate themselves for better corporate governance, as India gears to become a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the 55th Foundation Day of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), the finance minister said it is time to "rededicate ourselves for and towards better corporate governance... we cannot see our value systems being diluted... corporate governance is an issue on which all of us are committed."
Praising ICSI, she said, the high standard set by the institute is well recognised across the world.
She appreciated the decision of the ICSI to waive off registration fee for Agniveer, defence personnel and families of martyrs for enrollment in company secretaries course.

Bengaluru has a total of 2,79,335 stray dogs, found a systematic estimation survey carried out by the city civic body.
It revealed that there is a 10 per cent reduction in the street-dog population as compared to the previous survey in 2019 which had estimated the figure at 3,10,000, according to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which undertook the exercise.
At the same time, the overall neutering percentage has increased by 20 per cent from the estimated 51.16 per cent in 2019 to 71.85 per cent leading to reduction in puppy numbers, the report released on Wednesday stated.
According to the report, the decline in street dog population points to the effectiveness of intervention efforts aimed at population control and responsible management.
This estimate provides a vital snapshot of the street dog population dynamics across eight zones of BBMP and all the wards within Bengaluru, the city civic body said.
