Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said only citizens and not the state or Central governments can turn India into a developed and self-reliant country.
He was speaking at a function organised in Chanduvav village near Veraval town in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district to welcome 'Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra', a countrywide initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month to bring government schemes at the doorstep of needy citizens.
"The government, be it state or Central, cannot make India a developed country. Only 130 crore citizens, not anyone else, can turn India into a developed and self-reliant country," said Shah.
The Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra is an attempt to uplift the lives of 70 crore needy citizens, Shah said, and urged officials to aim for 100 per cent saturation of all schemes so that no person is left behind.

The Press Information Bureau's fact check unit has busted nine YouTube channels allegedly spreading fake news and misinformation in India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on Friday.
These nine YouTube channels identified by the PIB's fact check unit are Bharat Ekta News', Bajrang Education', Bj News', Sansani Live TV', GVT News', Daily Study', Ab Bolega Bharat', Sarkari Yojana Official' and Aapke Guruji', according to a list released by the ministry.
"The PIB Fact Check Unit (FCU) has busted nine YouTube channels spreading fake news and misinformation in India. The Fact Check Unit released multiple fact-checks in nine separate Twitter threads to counter the false information spread by these channels," the ministry said.
Their subscribers' base ranges from 11,700 to 34.70 lakh.

Markets regulator Sebi on Friday extended the deadline till April 1, 2024 for the implementation of the framework for handling complaints received through the SCORES platform for registered entities and for monitoring such grievances by designated bodies.
The guidelines were come into force from December 4.
The designated bodies are required to apply for SCORES authentication and/or for Application Programming Interface (API) integration with SCORES within a specified time period.
"It has been decided to extend the effective date of implementation of the provisions to April 1, 2024," the Securities and Exchange Board of India said in a circular.
In September, Sebi came out with a circular with respect to handling complaints received through SCORES platform for registered entities and for monitoring such grievances by designated bodies.
Under the guidelines, all entities, including companies, that received complaints of investors through SCORES, will have to resolve them within 21
