JSW Steel on Friday reported returning to black as it posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,773 crore for the July-September quarter on the back of higher income.
The steelmaker had suffered a loss of Rs 915 crore in the second quarter of the last financial year.
The total income increased to Rs 44,821 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal as against Rs 41,966 crore a year ago, JSW Steel said in a regulatory filing.
JSW Steel's expenses were lower at Rs 40,801 crore in the quarter under review against Rs 43,354 crore in the year-ago quarter.

CG Power and Industrial Solutions on Friday posted a 37 per cent growth in consolidated net profit to Rs 244 crore in the September quarter, mainly on the back of higher revenues.
The company's profit was at Rs 178 crore in the quarter ended September 30, 2022, a BSE filing said.
Total sales of the company increased to Rs 2,002 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 1,675 crore in the same period a year ago.
The consolidated results include the performance of the company's operating subsidiaries in Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands (Drives and Automation Europe), as well as CG Adhesives Products Ltd (India), and other non-operating and holding subsidiaries, the filing said.

A sessions court here on Friday extended Minister V Senthil Balaji's remand till November 6, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
Principal Sessions Judge S Alli, before whom Senthil Balaji was produced by the prosecution through video-conferencing from the Puzhal Central Prison, extended his judicial custody till November 6.
Balaji was arrested on June 14 by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to cash-for-jobs scam when he was the Transport Minister during the previous AIADMK regime.
After his arrest, he was hospitalised and underwent a bypass surgery. Later, the ED took him into its custody for interrogation and following that he was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Puzhal jail here. His remand is being periodically extended by the court.
In the meanwhile, the ED had on August 12 filed a charge sheet, running to 3,000 pages against Balaji. The Madras High Court had on October 19 dismissed the bail petition file

India invoked the provision of parity in Canada's diplomatic presence in the country in view of concerns over interference in New Delhi's affairs by Canadian personnel, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday.
The external affairs minister also said that India is likely to resume issuance of visas to Canadians if it sees progress in the safety of Indian diplomats in Canada.
The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations last month of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.
Days after Trudeau's allegations, India announced temporarily suspending issuance of visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country.

The government is planning to register solar panels made up of only domestically manufactured cells, wafers and polysilicon under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers in the next 3-4 years.
Minister for New and Renewable Energy RK Singh has also asked the concerned officers of his ministry to prepare a policy in this regard.
ALMM was introduced by the government to boost domestic manufacturing of solar panels.
The modules with less efficiency are removed from the ALMM, the minister said.
"We will evolve our policies. We will only protect those modules, which are made-in-India cells. In one or two years, we will bring such a policy. Then again, after 1-2 years, we will bring a policy that wafers and polysilicon should also be made in India.
"We only register those players under ALMM whose cell, wafers and polysilicon are India-made," Singh said.

The Reserve Bank of India on Friday said a penalty of Rs 2.5 crore has been imposed on L&T Finance Ltd for non-compliance with certain norms concerning non-banking financial companies (NBFCs).
After examination of reports following statutory inspection of the company, the RBI said it was revealed that the NBFC did not disclose to its retail borrowers, the gradation of risk and rationale for charging different interest rates to different categories of borrowers in the loan application form/sanction letter.
It also failed to notify the change in penal interest rate to borrowers, when it charged penal interest rate higher than what was communicated at the time of sanction, the RBI said.

The Congress on Monday charged that the gap between the ultra-rich and the middle class in the country is widening under the Modi government.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said an analysis of the publicly available data on income tax returns for the period 2013-14 to 2021-22 confirms one of the essential themes of the Bharat Jodo Yatra  that of increasing income inequality.
"The widening gap between the ultra-rich and the middle class under the Modi government is more and more apparent," he said in a post on X.
"Here's the proof: The top 1 percent of income tax payers made 17 percent of all income in 2013-14. By 2021-22, the top 1 percent made 23 percent of all income.
"Further, the income growth of the ultra-rich was much faster than for the middle class. The top 1 percent of income tax payers saw their income grow at 13 percent year-on-year from 2013-14 to 2021-22  a massive 60 percent faster than the income of the lowest 25 percent of tax payers," the Congress leader

E-commerce major Flipkart India Private Limited has reported a widening of consolidated loss to Rs 4,890.6 crore in the financial year 2022-23, according to financial data provided by business intelligence platform Tofler.
The Walmart group e-commerce firm posted a consolidated loss of Rs 3,371.2 crore in the financial year (FY) 2022.
On a standalone basis, Flipkart's net loss or loss carried to the balance sheet widened to Rs 4,839.3 crore.
"Net loss for the financial year ending as on 31st March 2023 was Rs 48,393 million as against that of previous year ending as on 31st March 2022 of Rs 33,624 million witnessed an increase of 44 per cent in the net loss," Flipkart's financial report said.
During the reported fiscal, the company's consolidated net total income, including income from other sources, increased by 9.4 per cent to Rs 56,012.8 crore from Rs 51,176 crore in FY 2022.
Its standalone net total income was the same as the consolidated numbers.

With nine of the 16 houses in Lindur village in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district developing cracks due to land sinking, the residents have sought a geological survey to ascertain the reason behind the subsidence.
The around 70 village residents are forced to sleep in the open as they fear their houses may collapse. Moreover, their agricultural land has also been damaged due to fissures, the villagers said.
"Cracks were noticed in the periphery of the village in June/July and have widened and spread, endangering houses. Nine out of 16 houses in the village have developed cracks and four of them have been declared unsafe," Sarita, Pradhan of Goharama Gram Panchayat told PTI.
The seepage of water from the nearby Jahmala nullah which gets flooded every year could be responsible for the cracks but it can only be ascertained by a survey of the Geological Department. We have requested the authorities to get a geological survey of the area done, she added.
