In a shocking revelation in the case of a woman's murder here six days ago, the woman herself became victim of the murder plot she had allegedly devised to kill her daughter, police said.
The daughter, in collusion with her lover, allegedly killed her mother Alka (36), police added.
The daughter allegedly eloped with her lover a few days ago, which led Alka to plot her murder. She allegedly hired a contract killer, who was recently released from jail after serving a 10-year sentence for rape, for Rs 50,000, according to police.
"The investigation revealed that Alka was furious with her daughter for her misconduct and elopement, leading her to plot her daughter's murder through a hired killer. The hired killer, unknown to Alka, was another lover of her daughter. Together, they strangled Alka to death and disposed of her body in a millet field," Station House Officer (SHO) of the Jasrathpur police station Om Prakash Singh said.

The AAP dispensation indulged in "the most devious and diabolic" exercise to "mislead" people over allotment of 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow by "subverting" norms and procedures and "hiding facts", a statement from the LG office charged on Saturday.
A day after the bungalow was allotted to Chief Minister Atishi, the LG office blamed her also of being part of the exercise.
The bungalow where Arvind Kejriwal lived as the Delhi chief minister for nine years came into a full blown tussle involving the AAP, BJP and the LG office over its vacation and fresh allotment.
"Within a span of just about 48 hours, when the house was handed over by Kejriwal and allotted to Atishi, the AAP, ministers and even the chief minister, resorted to the most devious and diabolic exercise of misleading the people of Delhi and the entire country by way of subverting norms and procedures, hiding facts to this effect and abusing the LG incessantly," alleged the statement.

Textile manufacturer Alok Industries on Monday said its consolidated net loss widened to Rs 262.10 crore for the second quarter ended September 2024.
The company had posted a net loss of Rs 174.83 crore in the July-September period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from Alok Industries, jointly owned by Reliance Industries and JM Financial Asset Reconstruction.
Its revenue from operation fell 35.46 per cent to Rs 885.66 crore during the period under review. It was Rs 1,372.34 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
The total expenses in the September quarter declined 25.45 per cent to Rs 1,160.63
Alok Industries' total income, including other income, was down 34.97 per cent to Rs 898.78 crore in the September quarter.
Reliance Industries owns a 40.01 per cent stake and 34.99 per cent by JM Financial Asset Reconstruction Company in Alok Industries, which operates in-home textiles, cotton yarn, apparel fabric, garments, and polyester yarn.

Increasing focus on data safety witnessed an average 14 per cent rise in job postings for cybersecurity professionals over the last one year, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The report by global job site Indeed is based on data derived from job postings and job clicks on its platform between September 2023 and September 2024.
"As our lives move online, companies are focusing on keeping data safe, which is driving the demand for cybersecurity experts. It's a fast-growing field with lots of opportunities," Indeed India Head of Sales Sashi Kumar said quoting the report.
Cybersecurity job postings jumped 14 per cent over the past year, reflecting the increased demand for experts, he added.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that Bengaluru leads the country in cybersecurity job openings, accounting for nearly 10 per cent of listings, followed by Delhi-NCR (4 per cent), remote jobs (2.2 per cent), Hyderabad (2 per cent), and Mumbai (2 per cent).

Cotton exports are expected to almost double to 28.50 lakh bales in the 2023-24 season against 15.50 lakh bales in the previous crop year 2022-23, as the average prices of Indian cotton were cheaper in the world market, Cotton Association of India (CAI) said on Tuesday.
"Indian cotton was ruling at a much cheaper rate during February-March compared to the global market. During this period, a lot of exports took place, including 20 lakh bales to neighbouring Bangladesh," CAI president Atul S Ganatra told PTI.
He said that for the current season, which starts from October 1, the average rate of cotton is Rs 57,500 per candy, while in the previous year, it was Rs 62,500 per candy.
Meanwhile, the total production estimated by the CAI Crop Committee for the season 2023-24 stood at 325.29 lakh bales compared to 318.90 lakh bales in the previous season.
The cotton imports are now projected at 1.10 lakh bales higher than the previous estimates.
