India, the world's third-largest energy consumer, will see its energy needs doubling by the end of this decade as it witnesses an unprecedented explosion of economic growth, the nation's richest man Mukesh Ambani said on Saturday.
Speaking at the convocation of Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Ambani, who heads the nation's most valuable company Reliance Industries Ltd, said the Indian economy will become a USD 40 trillion economy by 2047 from the current USD 3.5 trillion.
"And to fuel this growth, the country will need enormous amounts of energy - clean, green energy that won't choke mother nature for the sake of human progress," he said. "In fact, India's energy requirement is set to double just by the end of this decade."
Ambani is pivoting its largest fossil-fuel-dominated conglomerate to clean energy, investing billions of dollars in building giga factories to produce new energy ecosystems as well as generate renewable energy, and produce green hydrogen.

State-owned REC Ltd on Thursday said its board has approved a proposal to increase borrowing to Rs 1.5 lakh crore from Rs 1.2 lakh crore for 2023-24.
The Board of Directors of REC Ltd, in its meeting held on November 30, 2023, approved revision in its market borrowing programme under different debt segments with interchangeability among various instruments, including bonds/debentures, term loans, external commercial borrowing, commercial papers etc. on private/public placement basis from Rs 1,20,000 crore to Rs 1,50,000 crore for 2023-24, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The funds under the said revised market borrowing programme will be raised, from time to time, during the financial year 2023-24, with the approval of competent authority as per powers delegated in this regard by the Board of Directors, it added.

Aurobindo Pharma on Thursday said its subsidiary has received approval from the US health regulator to market a generic medication to treat asthma in children.
Eugia Pharma Specialities, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has received final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Budesonide Inhalation Suspension, the Hyderabad-based drug firm said in a regulatory filing.
The company's product is therapeutically equivalent to Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals LP's Pulmicort Repsules Inhalation Suspension, it added.
The product, indicated for treatment of asthma and as prophylactic therapy in children of age 12 months to 8 years, is expected to be launched in FY25, Aurobindo Pharma said.
As per IQVIA data, the approved product has an estimated market size of USD 226.4 million for the 12 months ended September 2023.
Shares of Aurobindo Pharma were trading 1.51 per cent up at 1,036.55 apiece on the BSE.

Housing sales rose by 22 per cent and new supply by 17 per cent year-on-year across eight major cities during the July-September period on better consumer demand, according to real estate digital platform PropTiger.com.
Housing brokerage platform PropTiger, which is owned by REA India, released its 'Real Insight Residential - July-September 2023' report on Thursday.
REA India also owns Housing.com and Makaan.com.
Sales of residential units increased to 1,01,220 units in the third quarter of this year from 83,220 units in the same period last year across eight major cities -- Delhi-NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Ahmedabad.
All cities, except Chennai, registered a growth in sales, with Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune accounting for nearly half of the total volume.

Thailand-based realty firm MQDC, which is present in co-working space in India, plans to develop luxury housing projects in Delhi-NCR and is in talks with local builders for joint development.
MQDC India, Indian arm of Thailand-based Magnolia Quality Development Corporation (MQDC), has one operational co-working facility in South Delhi. It is launching second co-working facility 'Whizdom Club India, at Golf Course Road, Gurugram, on Friday.
"We plan to develop luxury housing projects in Delhi and Gurugram. We are in talks with local developers. We are evaluating few sites," MQDC India Country Director Chulamas Jitpatima (Amy) told reporters here.
She hoped that the company would be able to announce its partnership early next year with local developer.
Amy expects to launch its first residential project by 2025.

The Trinamool Congress on Sunday claimed that the BJP's bright show in assembly polls in three states is more of a "failure" of the Congress than a success story of the saffron party.
The BJP was racing towards power in the Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and had a distinct edge in Chhattisgarh in the counting of votes for the assembly polls in these states.
"In the three states, it is more of a failure of the Congress than a success story of the BJP," TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said in a social media message.
The Congress was poised to oust the BRS in Telangana.
Ghosh claimed that the results of elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, a crucial electoral exercise ahead of Lok Sabha polls just months away, will not have any impact on the general elections.
