The name of Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised as the new chief minister of Maharashtra, a senior BJP leader said on Sunday night.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, he told PTI that the BJP legislature party meeting will be held on either December 2 or 3.
The oath-taking ceremony of the new Mahayuti government will take place on December 5 evening at the Azad Maidan in south Mumbai and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend it.
Fadnavis had served as chief minister twice- the second stint lasting for a few days. He was deputy CM in the outgoing Eknath Shinde-led government.

The National Green Tribunal has sought a reply from the Geological Survey of India and others in a matter over the deteriorating conditions of Kerala's Varkala cliff, a designated national geo-heritage site.
The NGT was hearing the issue after taking suo motu (on its own) cognisance of a media report regarding the site in the state's Thiruvananthapuram district facing threats due to environmental violations and administrative oversight.
A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, judicial member Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel said, "The news item highlights that the most alarming violation was the controversial step of demolishing part of the cliff, supposedly to prevent landslides and that the GSI termed the demolition shocking given the site's immense geological and geomorphologic significance."
The bench on November 22 further took note of the report over the extensive unauthorised constructions along the cliff, such as resorts, restaurants,

India's power consumption rose 5.14 per cent to 125.44 billion units (BU) in November as compared to the year-ago month.
In November 2023, power consumption was 119.30 GW, as per the government data.
The highest supply in a day (peak power demand met) also rose marginally  to 207.42 GW in November 2024 from 204.56 GW in the year-ago period.
The peak power demand touched an all-time high of about 250 GW in May this year. The previous all-time high peak power demand of 243.27 GW was recorded in September 2023.
Earlier this year, the power ministry projected a peak power demand of 235 GW during the day and 225 GW during evening hours for May while 240 GW during daytime and 235 GW in the evening hours for June.
The ministry had also estimated that peak power demand may hit 260 GW this summer.
Noting that November 2024 was the warmest in last four to five years as per official data, the experts opined that power demand as well as consumption showed subdued growth mainly due to slow on

The government and opposition parties have come close to reaching an agreement to break the impasse in Parliament with a discussion on the Constitution to mark its 75th year of adoption likely to take place in the coming days, sources said.
The Samajwadi Party may also be allowed to raise the Sambhal issue and the Trinamool Congress happenings in Bangladesh in the Lok Sabha, they said.
The opposition wants an official announcement of dates for the discussion on the Constitution before agreeing to the resumption of regular parliamentary proceedings, they added.
"We are hopeful that Parliament will begin its work from Tuesday. Positive talks have happened," a source said.
However, there is little possibility of any specific discussion on the Adani issue, sources added, noting that opposition members may touch on it during other debates.
