Air India on Friday said it has completed the acquisition of its first A350-900 aircraft by way of a finance lease transaction with HSBC through the GIFT City.
This is also the first wide body aircraft to be leased through the GIFT City, the country's first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).
In a release, the airline said the transaction was facilitated by its wholly-owned subsidiary AI Fleet Services Ltd (AIFS) and is also the first financing transaction from the orders for 470 aircraft that were made earlier this year.
Tata Group-owned Air India, which has embarked on an ambitious transformation plan, expects the first A350-900 aircraft to arrive in India by the end of this year.
According to the release, the airline has successfully acquired India's first Airbus A350-900 aircraft through a finance lease transaction with HSBC.
"This landmark transaction marks the beginning of our aircraft leasing business from GIFT IFSC, as AIFS will be the primary Air India Group .

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday asked domestic pharmaceutical industry to focus on the research and development of innovative products to move up the value chain and achieve global leadership.
Mandaviya, who also holds the Chemical and Fertilisers portfolio, asked medical technology companies to produce critical equipment in India for the global markets.
While formally unveiling the National Policy on Research & Development and Innovation in the Pharma-Med Tech Sector here, Mandaviya said the domestic pharmaceutical companies invest less on research and development when compared to multinational companies.
"International MNCs spend 20-25 per cent of their profits in research and innovation while for Indian companies the average is around 10 per cent...Till the time we do not come out with research-led innovative products, we cannot lead the segment globally," he noted.

Tamil Nadu is continuing to receive water from Karnataka and as of today, the state has received 7,000 cusecs of water, state Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan said on Tuesday.
Initially, Karnataka provided 2,500 cusecs of water per day and the quantum was increased to 3,000 cusecs per day.
"We are steadily reviving water from the Cauvery and hope to realise the full quantum," Duraimurugan told reporters here.
As per the Supreme Court order, Tamil Nadu is yet to receive 11,000 cusecs water, which he said is likely to be provided by tomorrow.
As per the direction of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee that was upheld by the Supreme Court, Karnataka should release 5,000 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days from September 13, the minister said. This means the 15-day period ends tomorrow. Despite protests in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government is releasing water, Duraimurugan said.

Berger Paints India Ltd, the country's second-largest paint manufacturer, does not foresee any significant impact on its profit margins despite the recent surge in crude oil prices, according to a senior company official.
Production of paint heavily depends on crude-based derivatives which are used as raw materials.
Berger said the current pain is mostly covered with its previous price increases and is not considering any further hikes in the festive season to push sales.
However, if crude oil prices continue to remain elevated for a longer duration, the company anticipates a potential dip in profits compared to the first quarter levels.
"If the prices remain at this level, which we expect, we see no immediate or significant impact going forward, except that profitability may be lower than in Quarter 1," Berger Paints Managing Director & CEO Abhijit Roy told PTI.

Home-grown Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) has secured a USD 648-million (about Rs 5,400 crore) work order in Mongolia.
The order has been awarded by Mongol Refinery State Owned LLC, MEIL said in a statement on Friday.
"MEIL has clinched a significant deal in Mongolia. The company received a Letter of Agreement (LOA) for constructing a state-of-the-art crude oil refinery plant valued at USD 648 million," it said.
In this regard, MEIL hydrocarbons President P Rajesh Reddy and Altantsetseg Dashdavaa, Executive Director, representing the Mongol Refinery State Owned LLC, inked the new project contract at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia on Friday.
