Myth: If you are not wheezing, then you don't have asthma

Fact: Symptoms can vary. “Breathlessness, chest tightness & coughing also matter,” says Dr Divya Shree J, Consultant – Interventional Pulmonology, Manipal Hospital Jayanagar.

Myth: You can skip meds if there are no symptoms

Fact: Asthma is not contagious. “It is not infectious, but you can get if someone in your family had it. It is genetic,” says Dr Uday Kiran G.

Myth: Fruits like bananas and oranges trigger asthma

Fact: They can worsen asthma. “Smoke triggers asthma—use smokeless options,” warns Dr Divya Shree J.
