India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, just ahead of the England tour starting June 20.

Rohit shared the news via Instagram, posting a picture of his Test cap and confirming he will continue to play ODI cricket for India.

The retirement comes after a dip in form during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit had already retired from T20Is post the 2024 T20 World Cup.

In 67 Tests, Rohit scored 4,301 runs with 12 centuries and 18 fifties at an average of 40.57. As captain, he led India in 24 Tests, winning 12 (Win%: 50).

With Rohit stepping down, attention turns to who will lead India in the crucial five-match Test series against England this summer.
