The country is seeing fingers being raised by political parties, dishing out their own nominations for the highest civilian award, after Sachin Tendulkar was promptly nominated for the Bharat Ratna on his retirement day. 

We take a look at the last 10 awardees.

Jayaprakash Narayan, independent activist and politician, was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1999. 

Gopinath Bordoloi, independent activist,  former CM of Assam, was also given the Bharat Ratna in the same year.

M. S. Subbulakshmi, carnatic classical singer, was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1998. 

Chidambaram Subramaniam, independent activist, interim Prime Minister, was also awarded the highest civilian awarded in the same year.

While, Aruna Asaf Ali, independent activist, was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
