Nine Indians on Bloomberg list of the world's 300 richest people; Mukesh Ambani drops from 18th in 2012 to 35th

Top wealth builders and losers, 2013

Four of the nine Indians in Bloomberg's list of he world's 300 richest people added a combined $10.7 billion to their wealth during 2013. And Shiv Nadar, founder-chairman of India's third-largest software exporter, HCL Technologies, topped the list billionaire wealth builders, adding as much as $3.9 billion to his fortune.

Shiv Nadar, total wealth: $9.8 bn

Sun Pharmaceutical Founder-MD Dilip Shanghvi came a close second. His fortune swelled by $3.2 billion to reach $12.8 billion in December 2013, largely on the back of a 54% rise the value of his company's shares.

Pallonji Mistry, father of Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry, grabbed the third spot by adding $2.6 billion to his wealth. He is now worth $14 billion

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji was the fourth-biggest gainer, adding $941 million to his fortune

The other five Indian billionaires in Bloomberg's Top-300 list, however, were not so fortunate. O P Jindal group promoter Savitri Jindal was the top loser. Her wealth shrank by $2.8 billion, as shares of group companies fell after some of their names

Steel Magnate L N Mittal saw his wealth erode by $1.2 billion, to end the year at $17.5 billion.

Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani came third in the list of losers, shedding $ 1 billion. His fortune at the end of the year was $20.7 billion. He remains India's richest individual.

Mukesh's younger sibling, and ADAG chief Anil Ambani saw $829 million being shaved off his wealth during 2013, despite a spectacular 78% surge in the share price of Reliance Communications. His personal fortune was $7.5 billion at the end of the year

Aditya Birla Group chief Kumar Mangalam Birla lost $445 million in personal wealth. His fortune was worth $8.7 billion in December 2013
