Arundhati Bhattacharya recently replaced Pratip Chauhuri as head of country's biggest public sector lender. Bhattacharya served as executive director prior to her elevation as chairwoman at State Bank of India.

Prior to joining Bank of India, V R Iyer served as executive director at Central Bank of India, another key public sector bank. Iyer started her career at Union Bank of India in 1975. She took over the reins of Bank of India CMD in 2012.

Archana Bhargava was at the helm of affairs at Punjab National Bank before she took over the charges at United Bank of India. Key portfolios she has handled include credit management, human resource management and international banking among others.

Nupur Mitra became chairperson and MD at Dena Bank after her predecessor D L Rawal called it quits. She rose to become general manager at Bank of India. She has spent most of her career time in field postings.

Shubhalakshmi Panse joined Allahabad Bank as its chairperson and managing director after quitting her job as executive director at Bangalore-based Vijaya Bank. She started her banking career at Bank of Maharashtra as a probationary officer.

Apart from being first woman managing director of LIC, Usha Sangwan will be the fourth MD at country's biggest financial institution. Sangwan was handling LIC's communications portfolio as an executive director.
