India's young chief ministers

    Maharashtra politics new poster boy has always had the distinction of starting young. At just 21, Fadnavis became the youngest municipal corporator of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and served as corporator for two consecutive terms, in 1992 and 1997 and became the second youngest mayor in the history of India. At 44 he distinguishes himself as one of the youngest CM's the state has seen.

    Sharad Pawar

    Pawar broke away from the Congress to form a coalition government with the Janata Party in 1978, becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the first time at the age of 38 . Pawar has served as Maharsthtra's CM on three diferent occassions.

    At the age of 38 Akhilesh yadav became the 20th CM of Uttar Pradesh in 2007. He was at that time the youngest person to have held that office.

    Omar Abdullah

    Omar was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 5 January 2009 at the age of 39. He was also made the youngest Union minister in the 12th Lok Sabha at just the age of just 29 when he held the Ministry of Tourism.

    After gaining a thumping victory in the Delhi assemblu ecelctions and emerging as the second largest party the Aam Aadmi party chief formed a minority govt on... and Kejriwal beacme one of the youngest CM's of the country at just 45. However his tenure lasted for only 49 days after which he resigned from the post.

    Hemant Soren

    He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 13 July 2013 with support from Congress and RJD after President's rule was removed from the state. He was 38 years of age when made the CM.

    Manohar Parrikar

    He is the first IIT graduate to become the Chief Minister of any Indian state. He became the Chief Minister of Goa for the first time on 24 October 2000 at the age of 45, but his tenure lasted only till 27 February 2002. On 5 June 2002, he was re-elected and became the Chief Minister again

    For the records

    Former chief minister of Pudducherry, M. O. Hasan Farook Maricar still holds the record of being youngest to become chief minister of India. Born on September 6, 1937, Maricar became the CM from Congress at just 29 years of age. As for a full fledged state Gegong Apang of Arunachal Pradesh held the CM's post at just 30 years of age in 1980.
