Trump wins: Orange is the new black

Supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump react he becomes the 45th President of the United States.

Trump is leading with 288 votes way above the 270 mark required to be the US president.

This is for the first time that a person who has not served in the government or military is the president of the US

Addressing his supporters in New York, Trump said, "It is time for us to come together. I pledge to every citizen that I will be President for all Americans."

Markets fear a Trump victory could trigger global economic and political mayhem, creating massive uncertainty for investors who had been counting on a win by Democrat Hillary Clinton, whose policies were seen as more staid but predictable.

Trump has threatened to rip up major trade agreements and impose barriers in the United States on imports from countries such as Mexico and China, which could reduce trade flows and harm already sluggish global growth.

Trump's threats to rip up a free trade agreement with Mexico and tax money sent home by migrants to pay for building a wall on the southern U.S. border have made the peso particularly reactive to events in the race for the White House.
