Who is Carlos Alcaraz Garfia?

Carlos Alcaraz Garfia is a professional tennis player, who won his first Grand Slam championship at US Open 2022, in New York, by defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud in a four set match.
Early life
Born on May 5, 2003 in El Palmar, Spain, Alcaraz is currently ranked as the World No 1 singles player, by the Association of Tennis Professionals.

Career
Alcaraz started playing tennis at a very young age, at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia, where his father was the tennis academy director. As a young athlete, he won many Spanish and European championships, including his debut ATP match against Albert Ramos Vinolas in 2020, when he was barely 16 years old. Alcaraz turned professional in 2018, when he was 15 and started by playing ITF Futures and ATP Challengers. He has won six career titles, five of which he bagged in 2022, including Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Madrid.

He also scripted history after he became the first teenager to win a men's slam title, breaking fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal's record at Roland-Garros in 2005. His victory lifted his ranking for the first time. Overall, he is the 11th teenager to win a major and the youngest Grand Slam since Nadal.

Alcaraz has now become the second-youngest US Open champion, after Pete Sampras, who won the major in New York in 1990. He is coached by former no. 1 player in the world Juan Carlos Ferrero, who has been working with him since he was 15 years old. He is also the fourth Spaniard, behind Nadal (22) Carlos Moya (22) and his mentor Juan Carlos Ferrero, to ascend to the top rank on the ATP list.

In May, Alcaraz advanced to the Madrid Open final by defeating his idol Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He also broke Andy Murray and Kevin Anderson's record of being on court.
