Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) will unveil its final architectural plans and unique features of its permanent campus at a special event on March 28, it said in a statement here today. The Institute expects to build the first phase and move to its new campus in June 2014.

The institute's Board of Governors (BOG) meeting has also been scheduled for the same day.

Amongst notable features of IITGN's 400-acre permanent campus on the banks of the Sabarmati river in Gandhinagar include features like energy saving measures, accessibility and mobility inside the campus, green initiatives and aesthetic use of the location will be highlighted by architects involved in the design process.

The institute adopted an innovative planning and design process by actively engaging the IITGN community, including its faculty, staff and students.

Since August 2012, IITGN has been hosting regular meetings with architects on a weekly basis to coordinate the complex planning and design activities. Several prominent architectural firms including Green Campus Development Consortium New Delhi, Mitimitra Consultants Pvt. Ltd. Pune, Vastu Shilpa Consultants Ahmedabad, HCP Design Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd. Ahmedabad and Design and Planning Counsel Pvt. Ltd. Ahmedabad, have been engaged for the design of the permanent campus of the Institute.

"The process of designing the permanent IITGN campus has been carried out in an inclusive manner. There has been a continuous two way exchange between the architects and our students and faculties during the entire process. As the first phase of planning is over we are ready to begin the construction very soon. However, before we do that, we wish to share the plan with all those who have been involved in the process, our well-wishers and stakeholders of the Institute through this event,” said Sudhir K Jain, director of IITGN.
