A 'smart scooter' has been reportedly unveiled in Tokyo which can be connected to an iPhone to display driving information.
According to the Japan Times, the electric scooter A4000i, manufactured by Terra Motors has an iPhone screen mounted in the dash which can display information like power consumption, charge remaining, average speed and mileage.
The other free downloadable applications, at the beta stage, assist in navigation or recommend roadside stops.
President and founder of Terra Motors, Toru Tokushige said that in all that people belonging to middle class in the emerging nations want to buy is motorbikes and smartphones.
The report said that serious air pollution and rising fuel prices have led to the increase in electric scooter demands in other parts of Asia.
Terra Motors aims to sell 2,000 units of the scooter priced at 450,000 Yuan, while a model without the iPhone connected, A4000 will be sold at a lesser price from next year.
According to the report, the scooter has an average range of about 65 km and its removable lithium-ion battery can last up to 50,000 km. The battery can be fully charged in about 4.5 hours.
Tokushige said that the company aims to sell 100,000 electric scooters worldwide, including an older model, by the end of 2015, the report added.
