Sri Lankan cricket team reaches home

The Sri Lankan cricket team, which came under a brazen terror attack here leaving six of its players injured, arrived here early this morning by a special chartered plane.

The flight with all the Lankan players and officials arrived here at around 0300 hrs.

The team was received at the airport by senior government and Sri Lankan cricket officials.

Thilan Samaraweera, who sustained a gunshot wound in the leg, and opener Tharanga Paranavitana, who was shot in the chest, were taken to a government hospital from airport, an official said, adding they are said to be in stable condition.

Other team members went to their home.

The Sri Lankan President had sent the special flight to Lahore following the attack yesterday.

Captain Mahela Jayawardene, Star wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara and mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis along with Suranga Lakmal and Thilina Thushara also received minor injuries in the attack near showpiece Gaddafi Stadium where the players were being taken at 0900 hrs ahead of the third day's play in the second Test against Pakistan.

Assistant coach Paul Farbrace also sustained minor injuries in the ambush, carried out by a dozen masked terrorists armed with rifles, grenades and rocket launchers.

Sri Lankan team has called of its tour of Pakistan.
