Bike enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the launch of a two-wheeler by Japanese major Yamaha on Thursday.
The company has been tight-lipped about the product which it will launch, though there is speculation it could be a 100-110 cc motor-cycle. It is expected to take on other commuter bikes including the Honda Dream Yuga, Hero Splendor and the TVS Star City Plus.
Yamaha recently discontinued its 100 cc commuter bike, Crux. Last year, it had stopped production of another commuter bike, the YBR 110.
India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd had reported a 44 per cent growth in domestic (including Nepal) sales in March as compared to the same month in 2015. The company attributed this to its increasing focus on expanding in tier II and III cities, along with its innovative ongoing customer-centric activities and exciting product line up including Yamaha Fascino and FZ series.
The company sold 60,032 units in March 2016 as against 41,640 units sold in March last year in the domestic (including Nepal) market.
"Though the Indian two wheeler market has seen a moderate growth of around 9% in the first quarter of 2016 as compared to the first quarter of last year, Yamaha has continued to ride the growth curve by marking a solid 47% sales growth during this period," said Roy Kurian, vice president - sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. "Yamaha as a brand has managed to win the trust of its customers in sales and after sales activities by offering them an unforgettable experience of the brand."
