The Apollo Hospitals group will open two hospitals by this year end, taking the total number to 56.

“One hospital will come up at Thiruchirapalli and the second one will be a public, private partnership (PPP) project. The place has not been decided yet for the second one,” Sangita Reddy, executive director (operations), Apollo Hospitals group, said after inaugurating a super speciality hospital here on Sunday.

With this new hospital, Apollo now has 54 hospitals with a bed-strength of over 9,000. The 200-bed super speciality hospital at Hyderguda here would provide a hyper tension programme, a first-of-its-kind in the country, along with green light laser therapy.

Apollo has plans to set up a mega health park at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. As part of it, a skill training institute would come up in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The institute would train 4,000-5,000 manpower per year, Reddy said.

The park will also provide research infrastructure and have a manufacturing facility for beds, intensive care devices, wheel chair, etc. The group is in discussions with various device manufacturing companies to set up base there.

On its proposed medical college, Reddy said, they were awaiting the state government’s approval. “The hospital in Tanzania, in Africa, will come up in the next 2-3 years,” she added.
