The Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) has selected a consortium of Populous Design Pty Limited, Australia, and Feedback Infrastructure Services Limited, New Delhi, to provide concept design, architectural design and project management consultancy (PMC) for the proposed international convention centre (ICC).
The ICC is to be developed near Bangalore international airport at a cost of Rs 250 crore. KSIIDC, which owns 35 acres land earmarked for the ICC, is the nodal agency to execute the project. The consortium was selected through a global tender.
Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda had announced in the Budget for 2012-13 that the design process for the ICC would be completed in the next six months and work on the project under EPC contract was expected to commence during the year.
“There has been a long-felt need for an ICC in Bangalore. The main convention hall will have a seating capacity of 6,000 besides many small conference halls, food courts, exhibition centre among others,” KSIIDC said in a statement.
The chief minister handed over the letter of award to Andrew James, director, Populous Australia, at a function here on Thursday. Gowda suggested KSIIDC to take up development of ‘Aero City’ adjacent to international airport in about 400 acres of land.
The aero city project will have signature/iconic buildings with world-class facilities and social infrastructure offering plug-n-play space for high-tech & knowledge based industries in the field of aero science, nano technology, financial sector, health sector besides IT sector.
