The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) on Monday said that Sunil Mittal-led telecom service provider Bharti Airtel Ltd added about 1 million subscribers in September, taking its total mobile subscriber base at the end of the month to about 282 million.

The increase in Airtel’s subscriber base was mainly on account of users lost by peers Idea Cellular, Vodafone and Aircel.

Idea lost 904,137 subscribers during the month. Its total user base at the end of September declined to 190.2 million. Vodafone India, meanwhile, lost 700,687 subscribers to see its total mobile subscriber base falling to 207.4 million.

Aircel lost 394,209 mobile subscribers in September, and its total mobile subscriber base shrank to 88.8 million.
