Motorcycle manufacturers continued to post stupendous growth rates for yet another month in June, despite the monsoon, which usually has a dampening effect on motorbike sales. While sales of market leader Hero Honda grew in June by a modest 33.12 per cent, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company posted an increase in sales of 92.38 per cent and 95 per cent, respectively, company statements said.
Hero Honda sold 1.39 lakh bikes during the month, up from 1.05 lakh bikes sold in June 2001.
As a result, cumulative sales of the company during the first quarter this fiscal grew to 4.21 lakh bikes, a 37.4 per cent rise over sales of 3.06 lakh units during the same quarter of 2001-02.
Bajaj and TVS sold 68,361 and 53,905 bikes respectively, against 35,534 units and 27,597 units sold respectively in June 2001.
