The industry body will help private sector companies to help build toilets and will also undertake the construction through the CII Foundation. The construction of the toilets is expected to cost between Rs 200- Rs 500 crore and is to completed by 2016.
"We will start with 10000 toilets across the country and then take a call on Phase 2. There is a shortage of 4.17 lakh toilets across schools and the government will cover a lakh by their scheme", Sumit Mazumder, President Designate at CII said.
The Prime Minister had in his speech on Independence Day emphasised the need to construct toilets across the country and sought private sector participation for the same.
