DTH release of Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam' on Feb 2

‘Vishwaroopam’ will now be released on DTH on February 2, 2013, said actor-cum-producer of the movie Kamal Haasan. It may be recalled, he had said earlier, the movie will be released on the DTH platform and then in the theatres.

But after the protest from exhibitors, he changed his stance and said the movie will be released the same day. But, on Monday he announced that the movie will be released a week after it is screened in theatres.

In a statement on Monday, Haasan said: “Keeping the request of my exhibitors in mind, I have deferred the DTH release date while the original premiere was scheduled for Thursday and hence inconvenient for most, I am now releasing it on a Saturday, at the end of the first week of release. It will be on February 2.” It may be noted, the movie is scheduled to release in theatres on January 25, 2013.

The Hindi version is poised for release on February 1 and all versions will be premiered the same day.

“I will be able to announce the names of my DTH partners who will be involved in this endeavour with me soon,” said Haasan, who had earlier announced that he had signed deals with six DTH players — Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel Digital TV, Reliance Big TV, Dish TV and Videocon d2h.

He added that the cost per view through DTH may also come down and was also contemplating three time slots which the viewers can choose for one-time viewing.
