GMR Infra JV won the contract to expand and modernize Mactan-Cebu airport in Philippines on BOT basis for 25 years. GMR Infra is the designated operator for the airport and the company officially took over the responsibility of operations of the airport last November.
Srinivas Bommidala, chairman of airports business, GMR group said, “Given our impressive record of building Delhi airport and Istanbul airports in record time, we are confident that we will open T2 to passengers by mid-2018”.
The development of Terminal 2 and the expansion of MCIA will allow for more direct international services to Cebu and expand the number of domestic connections such that Cebu becomes a major gateway into the Philippines.
Through this, tourism, business and leisure travel will increase significantly and positively contribute to the economic prosperity of Cebu.
