Technology major Google has partnered with Xiaomi to promote its low-cost mobile phone operating system (OS) Android One, banking on the Chinese company’s recent success in the local market and its expansion in other developing regions.

The American behemoth’s move is aimed at reviving the sales of the OS launched three years ago.

To begin with, Google and Xiaomi have come up with a series of smartphones — Mi A1.

The two firms together unveiled the first smartphone here on Tuesday in a rare occasion where a global launch took place in India. The device, priced at Rs 14,999, has been pitched against handsets like One Plus 5 and soon-to-be-launched Apple iPhone 8.
