Govt recovers penalty from RCom, Reliance Telecom

The government imposed and recovered a penalty of Rs 4.63 crore on Reliance Communications (RCom) and Rs 1.07 crore on Reliance Telecom (RTL) for interruption in mobile services during November, 2010 to February, 2011, Parliament was informed today.

"RCom and RTL switched off their mobile Base Transreceiver Stations (BTSs) at 1,191 and 228 Universal Service Obligation Fund supported sites, respectively causing suspension/ interruption of mobile services in certain areas during November, 2010 to February, 2011," Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

A financial penalty of Rs 4,63,22,000 has been imposed and recovered from RCom and Rs 1,07,67,500 on RTL for period of interruption in mobile services caused due to shutting down of services by these companies, he added.
