According to Sunil Raina, President & Business Head, Lava International, the firm is taking long-term measures by placing innovation at the forefront. "We are investing in product design and R&D. Further, we are bringing component manufacturers on baord to increase the extent of local value addition. Currently, 25-30 percent of the components used in our phones are sourced locally", he said.
Despite their decimation by Chinese rivals, the big four Indian brands still have a chance to bounce back, says, Prabhu Ram, head-industry intelligence group, CyberMedia Research. “If these four brands are able to come-up with attractive product offerings, with the latest specs and the right pricing and promotions, they can recover some lost ground”. The wide offline retail network, set up by the Indian brands years ago, can also be leveraged to reach the hinterlands.
