Oil major Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has contributed Rs ,012 crore to the government exchequer in Bihar during 2009-10 as compared to Rs 948 crore during the corresponding period previous year.
Talking to reporters, IOC General Manager for Bihar and Jharkhand) B B Choudhary said the contribution was by way of payment of taxes, including VAT with the company selling 2.301 Million Metric Tonne of POL products in Bihar during the period, meeting more than 68 per cent of total petroleum demand in the state.
He said the IOC total turnover in Bihar was Rs 10,910 crore during the same period.
Choudhary further said the company had started supplying BS-III compliant diesel across Bihar from June, 2010 ensuring introduction of green and environment friendly technology, while BS-III compliant petrol would be available from October, 2010 in the state.
Stating that helping underprivileged people remained one of the main objectives of Indian oil, Choudhary said the company had taken various initiatives in Bihar and provided 111 dealerships under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Yojana, a new business model introduced in 2009-10 with the objective of income generation to youth and empowerment of women.
The company was also planning to set up March 2010 fifty community kitchens covering all hospitals and major public places in the state.
The first two community kitchens have already been commissioned at Begusarai and Purnia Sadar Hospital, he said.
