L&T commissions India's largest solar power plant

L&T Construction, a subsidiary of the Larsen & Toubro conglomerate has commissioned India's largest solar phot voltaic-based power plant (40 MWp) owned by Reliance Power at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the firm said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

According to the release filed with the BSE, as the largest EPC player in solar power, L&T Construction executed the solar power plant from concept to commissioning in 129 days. With the commissioning of this plant, L&T Construction has installed 114 MW of utility scale solar PV power plants over the last fiscal - a benchmark in India's solar EPC industry.

The solar PV power plant, equipped to supply more than 70 million units of clean and green energy to 75,000 households, was commissioned in the presence of Farroq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajastan, JItendra Singh, Energy Minsiter, Anil AMbani, Chairman of Reliance Power and senior officials from L&T.

The plant is expected to displace nearly 70,000 million tonne of carbon dioxide annually, said the release.

L&T is a $11.7 billion technology, engineering construction, manufacturing and financial services conglomerate, with global operations.

Shares of L&T slipped 2.64% from the previous day's close to trade at Rs 1,309 apiece at the BSE.
