Consumer electronics major, LG Electronics, will be launching a new series of full HD and other smart televisions based on its webOS platform in India during this year, said marketing head (home entertainment) LG India Rishi Tandon.

webOS is a Linux kernel-based intuitive operating system platform, which LG had acquired from Hewlett-Packard in early 2013, for smart TVs. The systems has built-in smart features integrated as a package.

“At present, we are offering 55-inch TVs in the OLED segment. We will be launching in India a 77-inch OLED TV in a week from now,” he told mediapersons on the sidelines of India Gadget Expo 2014 in Hyderabad on Thursday.

On the smart TV market scenario worldwide, Tandon said there were in excess of 160 million smart TVs globally. However, he said, 53 per cent of the users were not aware of how much they could do with a smart TV.

“At present, our home entertainment division contributes Rs 5, 300 crore to LG India's overall revenues. This is an increase of 25 per cent over last year,” he said, adding the company was aiming at garnering a 30 per cent share in the Indian flat panel TV market this year, as against 23 per cent in 2013.
